World-record-breaking

Digital artist donates NFT to support arts in developing countries through UNESCO

World-renowned artist Beeple, who broke records in 2021 for selling an NFT for $69.3m, has donated an NFT for his work “Biological Collectible” (a magnificent digital work accompanied by a physical) to be auctioned as part of the World Festival of Cultural Diversity– the proceeds will go to UNESCO’s efforts to support arts projects in developing countries.

“I’m inspired by Article 1 of the Universal Declaration on Cultural Diversity which says ‘cultural diversity is as necessary for humankind as biodiversity is for nature’. So I’m delighted to donate my work Biological Collectible to be auctioned at Khalili Foundation’s World Festival of Cultural Diversity knowing that the proceeds will go towards UNESCO’s brilliant efforts to support art and culture in parts of the world where it’s most needed.”

The charitable auction takes place as part of the World Festival of Cultural Diversity – a global, synchronised celebration of cultural diversity created by the Khalili Foundation in association with UNESCO. It is a year-round programme of events and activities leading up to the UN World Day for Cultural Diversity for Dialogue and Development on 21st May.
